Used for decades in the US and Australia, steel frame buildings combine great strength and flexibility. A steel house uses the equivalent amount of steel found in 3 to 4 recycled cars. In comparison the manufacture of one tonne of cement generates approximately 0.822 tonnes of direct CO2 emissions (British Cement Association, 2005). An average house requires around 50 - 60 tonnes of cement.
